Well, I thought I’d open my new blog with a general update…
As you may know, Amy and I made the difficult (and probably insane) decision to pack up and move from California to Connecticut in April. Naturally, everyone’s first question is ‘Why?’. We always try to give a simple answer - ‘We have family here’ - ‘we moved out here looking for work’ - ‘the schools are so much better here’ - ‘we really like nutmeg’ (locals will think that’s funny)… But, in truth, the answer is more complicated than that - and probably a good topic for another blog.
Since we arrived in April, we’ve mostly settled in to our new home. Amy found a job doing payroll that she really likes. Zoe and I spend our days together watching Spongebob Squarepants or Dora the Explorer. The job I had hoped to get vaporized just before we moved out here. We took a deep breath and a leap of faith and moved out here anyway, planning on living off our savings until we found work. I’ve spent the last several months on the job hunt. I’ve applied for literally hundreds of jobs and sent my resume to anyone who would take it. As I type this, I have high hopes for a couple of jobs I’ve just applied for… We’ll see…
Besides being a full-time job seeker (it really is a full time job). I’ve started a web design company - 573design, which will hopefully make me some money. I already have a handful of web design jobs, so that’s been encouraging.
Other than that, we’ve been exploring the area. A few weeks ago, we went out to Newport, Rhode Island. Last week, Amy and I spent our anniversary in Lexington, Massachusetts (what’s more romantic than the site where the Revolutionary War began? Ha ha). Last weekend I explored New York City for the first time, which was cool.
So, we’re slowly settling in. It’s been tough, nothing has gone as planned - but that’s the way life goes. We still really like it here. I’m hopeful that everything will work out eventually.
And I do really like nutmeg…
